Welcome back to the Spring term. We hope you had a wonderful Christmas and a happy New Year!
Our topic this term is all about ‘The Great Fire of London’. As part of this topic the children will be learning about how the fire started and why it spread so quickly. We will be looking into how we learn about the past and how it has changed over the years. Later this term we will be looking at current day London and the famous landmarks.
In Maths, we will be continuing to focus on place value, number bonds and their application in problem solving. We will also be looking at telling the time to o’clock and half past.
Please continue with regular home reading and it is important that you discuss the books with your child and ask questions to help develop their comprehension skills. Reading folders need to come into school every day. The children will continue to receive weekly spellings which will have a particular sound focus. In addition, it would be a huge benefit if you could continue to practise the common exception words at home.
PE days are Wednesdays and Thursdays so please ensure PE kits are in on these days. As the weather has been colder recently, please ensure that your child has named tracksuit bottoms, a jumper and trainers in their PE kit as well as a coat for playtimes. It would be a huge help if you could continue to check that all items are named.
Our Science topic this half term is Materials and we will be looking at Winter and the seasonal changes.
Show and tell will now be on a Tuesday. This will be on rotation and your child will be informed during the week they can bring in show and tell. The groups will also be displayed in the classroom window. If your child has any topic related items or work to share with the class this can be shared any day of the week.
We will be visiting the library on Mondays. Please can library books come into school on this day, either to be renewed or changed.
For your information, the year 1 Phonics screening test will take place in the Summer term. We will send out some practice packs for you to do at home with the children later this term.
We would also like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you for all of our lovely Christmas cards and presents. We appreciate and thank you for your continued support. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to come and ask.
