Welcome to Year 1
Welcome back to the Autumn term. We hope you had a wonderful Summer holiday!
For the first few weeks of this term, as a school, we will be looking at UK Black History. For the rest of the term we will be learning all about explorers like Christopher Columbus and Neil Armstrong.
In Maths, we will be to focusing on place value, addition and subtraction as well as shape. We will also be looking into problem solving. Mathletics homework will to be set each week.
Please read regularly with your child and it is important that you discuss the books and ask questions to help develop their comprehension skills. Reading folders need to come into school every day.
The children will also receive weekly spellings which will have a particular sound focus. In addition, it would be a huge benefit if you could practise the common exception words at home.
PE days are Wednesday and Thursday so please ensure PE kits are in on these days. As the weather is due to turn colder, please ensure that your child has named tracksuit bottoms, a jumper and trainers in their P.E kit as well as a coat for playtimes. Please check that all items are named.
Our Science topic this half term is animals, including humans and we will also be looking at Autumn and the seasonal changes.
Show and tell will be on a Wednesday. This will be under a rotation and your child will be informed on the week they can bring in show and tell. The groups will also be displayed in the classroom window. If your child has any topic related items or work to share with the class this can be shared any day of the week.
We will be visiting the library on Monday. Please can library books come into school on this day, either to be renewed or changed.
We are looking forward to seeing you all for Meet the Teacher on Wednesday 19th September at 5:30pm. If you have any questions before then please don’t hesitate to come and ask.
