Welcome to Year 1
We hope you had a wonderful Summer break.
We have an exciting term ahead with our new topic ‘Where in the World?’ Throughout this term we will be learning lots about France, China, Kenya, America, Brazil and the Antarctica. We will be looking at different aspects of these countries including differences in climate and culture.
As part of the topic we will be using atlases and globes to look at the different continents and oceans and we will be thinking about the differences between the UK and other parts of the world.
Our Science topic this half term is Animals including Humans.
The children will be set homework on Fridays to be completed by the following Friday. This will include weekly spellings, daily reading and maths homework which will be set online on ‘Mathletics’ (a letter will be sent out to explain this before we start setting homework). Once they have been set up on Mathletics, the children’s log in details will be found in the back of their reading record books. It is very important that children read at home on a regular basis and this needs to be recorded in their reading records and sent back to school on a daily basis.
Homework will begin next week.
We will no longer use their red communication books but if you need to give us a message please write this in their reading record as we check these daily.
P.E days are Monday and Thursday. Please ensure that all school uniform is named including PE kits. They will require tracksuits and trainers when the weather becomes cooler for PE lessons outside. PE kits need to come in on a Monday and will come home on a Friday. Please make sure your child brings a water bottle to school every day.
Show and tell will be on a Friday. This will be under a rotation and your child will be informed of the week they can bring in show and tell. The groups will also be displayed on the window. If your child has any topic related items or work to share with the class this can be brought in any day of the week.
We will be visiting the library every Thursday.
At home times, children cannot be released from our care unless we have seen the adult collecting the child from school. To ensure the safety of the children please inform us if your child is being collected by a different adult to usual. This can be written in your child’s reading record book.
We look forward to working with you and your children this year and we are happy to meet with you if there are any particular issues you would like to discuss. Meet the teacher will take place on Thursday 21st September at 5:30pm. Alternatively, please do write any queries in your child’s reading record book and we will respond as soon as possible.
