Year 3 Toucans

September 2018

Dear Parents/ Carers,

Welcome to the start of a new school year. I hope this will be an enjoyable and challenging year for your children as they transition from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 2. I am writing to let you know what will be happening this term in year 3.

Our topic this term is Stone Age to Iron Age. This is a very exciting history topic. However, we are starting with a mini topic, to celebrate Black History Month, studying the books by Virginia Kroll and learning about Kenya.

In Year 3 homework increases, your child will be expected to read regularly at as well as learn weekly spellings, complete maths tasks and topic/ English homework. Homework will be set on Fridays and should be completed by the following Wednesday. Spelling tests and Mental Maths test will take place on Fridays. We appreciate your co-operation with this.

Children are expected to bring in their own healthy snack (no crisps/ chocolate/ nuts) for break times. Weather permitting, children are able to change their trainers at lunch time to go onto the field. In order to prevent loss of trainers, please include a plastic bag in their PE kits to allow them to keep them separate. The children also need a named water bottle every day.

There will be a “Meet the Teacher” session soon and I look forward to meeting you to outline the aspects covered in Year 3.  If you have any questions in the meantime, please get in touch. Also, if you are willing to come in at any time and help, please let me know, because we could value any help.

Many Thanks, Mrs H Lancashire, Miss Ripley
