Our School

WELCOME

A message from Mrs Meyrick, the headteacher

Welcome to our lovely village school, Byfleet Primary School (BPS)! Thank you for visiting our website to find out more about us. We are a busy but friendly school, with an ethos throughout of Always Growing. Ready for Life. Our three values (Ready, Respectful, Safe) steer everything we do! Our environment is calm, inviting and a happy place to learn and work, where we collaborate as a team to make it the special place that it is. We offer a range of learning opportunities, both in and outside the classroom and aim to make learning engaging with a level of challenge which encourages our pupils to develop resilience and independence, preparing our children for the next stage of their lives so they can be 'Ready for Life', allowing them to thrive in the future. Being a 1-form entry school, we are a close-knit family and we have high expectations for everyone.

In May 2020, we were delighted to became a member of the EEEA Academy Trust, which brings much opportunity for growth and rewards for our pupils and staff.

We are a lovely village school with 210 children on role, nestled between Brooklands and Byfleet Village.  Our school has a privately run pre-school on site which takes children from the age of 2 and is open every day all day except Friday afternoon. The school is set in a vast green environment with a pond and nature area and a larger than average playing field, and ample space for a Forest School. The grounds boast large playing fields, football pitches, outdoor climbing and gym equipment, along with a large outdoor swimming pool, where all children in school (from Reception to Yr 6) learn to swim every year. We have specialist sports coaches, a dedicated Spanish teacher (Reception to Yr 6) and peripatetic music teachers, providing high-quality provision. The school day is extended with exciting extra-curricular clubs, including wraparound care at the start and the end of the day to cater for our local families. Reading is at the heart of our curriculum; we love books and our library is the hub of our school. We believe it is important to make our children feel valued with a part to play in our big family where they have different leadership roles like House Captains, Play Leaders, Librarians, Eco Warriors and School Council Members and we celebrate their successes in weekly assemblies, encouraging them to be the best that they can be. Our remarkable Pastoral Care Team work hard to ensure children's emotional needs are met through ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support), lunchtime Wellbeing Clubs and Zones of Regulation, using a child-centred approach.

My belief that 'it takes a village to raise a child' relies on strong collaboration between parents, staff, governors and the wider community; we welcome parents as partners so that we can promote together the high standards of learning, behaviour and attitudes to achieve the best for our children - we aim to be transparent so that everyone knows what needs to happen to ensure our children are 'Always Growing. Reading for Life'. Our children take ownership of their behaviour and understand the role they play in making Byfleet the happy place that it is. We have a thriving parents' Friends Association who contribute significantly towards fundraising to improve outcomes for our children.

Thank you for visiting our website; please do also follow us on twitter @byfleetprimary to see a snapshot of what we get up to. We warmly welcome you to visit our lovely school, or if you have a query please feel free to contact the office directly via info@byfleet.surrey.sch.uk.

I look forward to collaborating with you, to build a happy and successful relationship over the coming years, to ensure our Byfleet children get the best education they deserve.

Mrs Cheryl Meyrick, Headteacher
