Week beginning: 18th May 2020

The children have a Maths and English task set daily and one Topic, Science and Spellings task which can be completed at any point over the week. Please scroll down to find the weekly activities at the bottom of this page.

 

Encourage your child to read daily and complete their reading record. They could listen to ‘Open Very Carefully’ using the link below.

Alternatively, you could have a go at one of the reading comprehension sheets below. Please choose the one you think is best suited to your child’s reading ability.

Daily Tasks:

Monday:

Maths:  Today you will be completing a task on adding and subtracting tens. Please watch ‘Lesson 1- Adding and Subtracting Tens (Summer Term- Week 4 w/c 11th May.) You can access the video using the link https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-2/.

Alongside the video, please complete the sheet provided below. As always, you can use any objects and/or pictures to help you.

English: Last week you began completing tasks on the book ‘Claude in the City by Alex T Smith’. On Friday, you planned your own story. Today and tomorrow, you are going to complete task 6: Write it! You are going to write your own story using your plan. You do not need to write it all in one go. You can complete the task in your book or on the sheet provided below.

Tuesday:

Maths: Please use the website link below to practise subtracting multiples of 10 from different 2 digit numbers. https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/daily10

Please select, ‘Level 2, Subtraction, Two- Digit Numbers.’ You can choose how long you would like for each question.

Alongside the game, you can use any objects and/or pictures to help you if needed.

English: Today you are going to complete your story. If you finished your story yesterday, please read back over your story and see if you can make any additions or improvements, just like we do in school. Have you included adjectives? Have you used capital letters and full stops?

Wednesday:

Maths: Today you will be completing a task on subtracting 2 digit numbers. Please complete the sheet provided below.

English: Today you are going to complete task 7: Illustrate it! Can you design your own front cover for your story you have written? Remember to include the name of the author and illustrator.

Thursday:

Maths: Today you are going to continue to practise subtracting. Please complete the challenge cards provided below. Remember to use the same methods you used yesterday.

English: Today you are completing task 8: Illustrate it! You are going to make a friend for Sir Bobblysock. This friend could be another animal, sock or piece of clothing. Please complete the activity in your book or on the sheet provided below.

Friday:

Maths:  Today you are going to be a code breaker. Solve the maths calculations by adding and subtracting to crack the code. Please complete the sheet provided below. As always, you can use any objects and/or pictures to help you.

English:Today you are completing task 9- Write it! Sir Bobblysock’s new friend has gone missing and he needs your help to find him! Can you make a ‘Lost Poster’ for the character you have created? You can find an example of a Lost Poster below.

Weekly tasks:

Spellings:

Your spellings this week are taken from the Year 1 and Year 2 Common Exception Word lists. Please chose the spelling list that best suits your child’s ability.

Practise your spellings daily using one of the activities from our school's spelling approach. You could even use chalk, paint or Lego!

Science:

We are continuing with our Science topic on ‘Plants’.

 

This week you are going to design your own garden. What type of plants do you want to have in your garden? Will you have a quiet reading area or a water feature? Will your garden have an area to grow your own fruit and vegetables? You could draw, paint or collage your garden. You could make it with construction or junk. Please see some photos of gardens below to inspire you. Have fun and be as creative as possible!

Topic:

We are continuing with our topic ‘Kings, Queens and Castles.’

 

This week you are going to researching about Queen Victoria. Please use the links and PowerPoints provided to find out all about her.

You can present your findings in any way you wish. It could be on a poster, a leaflet, a timeline or a PowerPoint.

PSHE and Wellbeing:

It is really important that we are getting lots of fresh air and exercise at this time. Have fun completing an ABC Walk. Good luck!
