We are now starting a new Science topic: ‘Properties and Changes of Materials’.  This unit teaches about different materials, their uses and their properties, as well as dissolving, separating mixtures and irreversible changes. The children will learn about sorting and classifying objects according to their properties and explore the properties of materials to find the most suitable material for different purposes.  We will find out about different ways to separate mixtures of materials, using filtering, sieving and evaporating and finally about reversible and irreversible scientific changes.

This week, please watch: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/z4339j6/articles/zx8hhv4 and then read the information below.  Then try to complete the two attached activities.  If you are unsure of any of the questions, try researching your queries using the Internet.

Topic:

We are starting a new topic: ‘Ancient Greece’. In this topic we will be: learning about who the Ancient Greek people were, when they lived and where and how they were able to establish their empire. We will learn how the political system worked in Ancient Greece and Democracy and compare it with the political systems we have today. The children will also compare and contrast the modern day Olympics with the Ancient Greek events. They will also learn about and order events from the Battle of Marathon and in addition to this, they will learn about Ancient Greek religion and research information about a variety of Greek gods to write their own Greek myth. Finally, the children will use historical evidence to find out about the Trojan War and the impact it created.

For this week and next week, please look at the Who were the Ancient Greeks PowerPoint  (On slide 6 you need to click on the map to see an animation of how the empire changed over time.)

Then complete the activity sheet: Modern day vs Ancient Greece.  Remember: If you do not have a printer, you can draw out a similar table and fill it in by hand.

Can you find out any other factors which have changed or which interest you to add to the table of information?

Then order the events from Ancient Greece and put them on a timeline using the sheet below.
