Week beginning: 8th June 2020

The children have a Maths and English task set daily and one Topic, Science and Spellings task which can be completed at any point over the week. Please scroll down to find the weekly activities at the bottom of this page.

 

Encourage your child to read daily and complete their reading record.

They could listen to extracts of stories using the following link: https://www.booktrust.org.uk/ and click on the ‘Home Time’ section. Perhaps they could read along to ‘Oh No George’ using this link: https://www.booktrust.org.uk/books-and-reading/have-some-fun/storybooks-and-games/oh-no-george/

Monday:

Maths: Watch the BBC Bitesize video on ‘How to use directions and turns’ using the link below. You can also have a go at the activity underneath the video. Can you practise using the vocabulary left, right, quarter turn, half turn and any other words used to describe position and direction? Use the words in the posters below to help you. You could use toys and move the position of them to help you. For example, use two toys. Which toy is on the left? Move a toy a quarter turn.

English: This week we are looking at the story of ‘How to find gold’. Today you are completing Task 1: Explore it. You can use the questions as a guide to just discuss the text or you can use them to record your answers (You do not have to write down all your answers to the questions).

Tuesday:

Maths: Have a go at the activity sheet below on describing turns. There are 3 levels of challenge so choose the sheet you feel you can complete. You could use the posters from Monday to help your thinking.

English: Today you are completing Task 2: Illustrate it. You can use the questions as a guide for discussion or you can use them to record your answers. (You do not have to write down all your answers to the questions). Have a go at creating your own imaginary world map.

Wednesday:

Maths: Have a go at the activity sheet below on describing position. There are 3 levels of challenge so choose the sheet you feel you can complete.

English: Today you are completing Task 3: Talk about it. You can use the questions as a guide for discussion or you can use them to record your answers. (You do not have to write down all your answers to the questions).

Thursday:

Maths: Have a go at the activity sheet below on describing position. There are 3 levels of challenge so choose the sheet you feel you can complete.

 

English: Today you are completing Task 4: Imagine it. You can use the questions to help you think about your ideas and you can choose your own way to record them. This could be through discussion, writing the answers or drawing them.

Friday:

Maths: Practise counting forwards and backwards from different numbers up to 100. You could use the hundred square below to help you. If it is too tricky, try counting up to 30 then up to 50. Have a go at the activity sheet below on counting to 100. There are 3 levels of challenge so choose the sheet you feel you can complete.

English: Today you are completing Task 5: Create it. You can use the questions to help you think about your ideas. Can you draw your own map of your own home?

Spellings:

Practise your spellings daily using one of the activities from our school's spelling approach. A spelling test will be set on Friday through Purple Mash.

Science:

Our Science topic this term is ‘Plants’.

 

This week we are thinking about what plants need to grow. Complete the activity sheet below on ‘What plants need’. You can use the BBC Bitesize link below to watch the videos on plants and what they need to grow. There is also a little quiz underneath the videos that you could have a go at.

Topic:

Our topic this term is called ‘In Grandma’s Day’. In this topic we will be looking at changes within living memory. Our first focus is on toys.

 

Have a look at the presentation below on toys. Can you sort the pictures into old and new toys? Use some of the words provided to explain your choices.

Phonics:

Ruth Miskin is doing live phonics streaming daily with different sets of speed sounds. She holds sessions at 9.30/10.00/10.30 in the mornings. This follows the same format as our phonics sessions in school. The children can practise set 2 and 3 sounds.

You could practise phonics daily using the weblink listed below.

 

Keep an eye on the English resources section of our class webpage as we will be adding phonics resources and sounds that the children can practise. This week we have added set 3 multi-syllabic words to practise.
