Hello and welcome to the Summer Term in Year 1. We are very excited about our new topic about Early Time and this half term our topic is .......Dinosaurs! The children have all been given group dinosaur names. Hopefully they will be able to choose their favourite dinosaur and make a factsheet about it as well as travel in our Time Machine back to when dinosaurs rule the earth. We will act out being humans amongst the dinosaurs and then maybe we can write a fantasy story about our adventures.
We will be working hard on our reading ready for a Phonics Test in June and we are all working our way up the beanstalk by remembering capital letters and full stops. In Numeracy we will be measuring using weight, volume, clocks and rulers as well as calculating using higher numbers.
There will be new homework this term with spellings to learn each Monday ready for our spelling test on Fridays.
Please tell the children they can bring anything to show and tell about dinosaurs any day but their group show and tell when they can bring other precious things in will still be on Fridays in a rota.
There are lots of websites to view about dinosaurs including the National History Museum and some fun games on ww.pbskids.org/dinosaurtrain/index.html
Our science topic this term is Light and Dark - what sources of light are there in the world and which of these are man made?
At the end of this half term we will be learning about the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and getting ready for our giant party to celebrate.
Next half term we will be very busy working on Early Man as well as learning about the Olympics and rehearsing for the whole school production in July.
