Welcome to Year 1
Welcome back to the Autumn term. We hope you had a wonderful Summer holiday!
This term we will be looking at Journeys and Our Local Area. This is a very exciting history and geography topic and we are especially looking forward to our trip to Brooklands and we will be sending details of this to you shortly.
In Maths, we will be focusing on place value, addition and subtraction as well as shape. We will also be looking into problem solving, reasoning and fluency.
Please read regularly with your child and it is important that you discuss the books and ask questions to help develop their comprehension skills. Reading folders need to come into school every day.
The children will receive weekly spellings which will have a particular sound focus. They will also receive weekly maths homework which will link to the work we have been doing in class. In addition, it would be a huge benefit if you could practise the common exception words at home. Homework will be set on a Friday and will need to be in by the following Friday along with their spelling books.
PE days are Wednesday and Thursday so please ensure PE kits are in on these days. As the weather is due to turn colder, please ensure that your child has named tracksuit bottoms, a jumper and trainers in their P.E kit as well as a coat for playtimes. Please check that all items are named.
Our Science topic this half term is Materials and we will also be looking at Autumn and the seasonal changes.
We are looking forward to seeing you all for Meet the Teacher on Thursday 12th September at 5:00pm. If you have any questions before then please don’t hesitate to come and ask.
