Year 2 Squirrels

Welcome back to the Spring term.

We hope you had a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year! Thank you for your generous Christmas gifts.

Our topic this term is ‘Pole to Pole’. As part of this topic we will be looking at the oceans and continents. We will be learning about animals and their habitats throughout the world. We will be developing our map skills and using atlases to locate different countries.

Our Science topic this half term is ‘Living things in their Habitats’.

This term we will be visiting the local Library. More details will follow shortly.

Homework will be continuing this term. Children will continue to receive weekly spellings and Maths homework on a Friday. This needs to be handed in by the following Friday. Please continue with the regular home reading and it is important that you discuss the books with your child and ask questions to help develop their comprehension skills.

Throughout this term you will be receiving some more information regarding the SATs. We will be holding a SATs evening on Wednesday 12th February at 5:30pm where we can answer any questions you may have. We do not talk about the SATs to the children to avoid unnecessary worry.

P.E days- Wednesday and Friday

Library day- Monday

We appreciate and thank you for your continued support. Any questions, please get in touch.

Miss Payne and Mrs Crammond.

Welcome to Year 2

We hope you had a wonderful summer break. smiley

We have an exciting term ahead with our topic ‘Journeys.’ Throughout this term we will be learning about the Local Area and how it has changed over time.  We will be drawing lots of maps, including our journey to school and we will be thinking about how we can take more responsibility of our School and the Local Area.

Later on in the term, we will be taking a school trip to Brooklands Museum (details to follow shortly).
Our Science topics this term are Materials and Animals including Humans.
Children will be set homework every Friday to be completed by the following Friday. The children will have weekly spellings and Maths homework that links to the week’s learning. Please support your child as much as possible with their homework and if you have any questions please write in your child’s reading record.

It is very important that children read at home on a regular basis and this needs to be recorded in their reading records and sent back to school on a daily basis.

P.E days are Wednesday and Friday. Please ensure that all school uniform is named including PE kits. They will require tracksuits and trainers when the weather becomes cooler for PE lessons outside. PE kits need to come in on a Monday and will come home on a Friday.

Please make sure your child brings a water bottle to school every day.
Show and tell will be under a rotation and your child will be informed on the week they can bring in show and tell.  This information will also be displayed on the window. Please can you ensure show and tell comes into school on Monday as they will be shown throughout the week.
At home times, children cannot be released from our care unless we have seen the adult collecting the child from school. To ensure the safety of the children please inform us if your child is being collected by a different adult to usual. This can be written in your child’s reading record book.

I look forward to working with you and your child this year and I am happy to meet with you if there are any particular issues you would like to discuss.

If you have any questions in the meantime, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Kind regards,
Miss Payne and Mrs Crammond.
